GR0877 Problem 8

PROBLEM STATEMENT: This problem is still being typed.

SOLUTION: (D) This is a straightforward application of the Stefan-Boltzmann law $P \propto T^4$ (the total energy radiated per unit surface area of a black body per unit time is proportional to the fourth power of the black body’s temperature $T$). If the temperature is increased by a factor of two, the radiated power and the mass of the ice that can be melt will increase by a factor of $2^4 = 16$.
