## GR0877 Problem 48

PROBLEM STATEMENT: This problem is still being typed.

SOLUTION: (C) We have one NOR-gate with two inverted inputs, one AND-gate and one NAND-gate (you should remember this from your electrical engineering course to solve this problem). For NOR-gate with inverted inputs the output is $\overline{\overline{A} + \overline{B}}$, for NAND-gate $\overline{C \cdot D}$. Thus, $E = \overline{\overline{A} + \overline{B}} \cdot \overline{C \cdot D}$.

I’m not sure if all logic gate questions will be like this. Without knowing logic gates, I noticed that since all pairs of letters (AB and CD) had bars over them, this must correspond to the open circles.

Since A and B both connect to open circles, we can choose between C or E. Since the shape of the AB thing is different from the shape of the CD and E things, it must have a different operation than the two, which leaves C as an option.
