PROBLEM STATEMENT: This problem is still being typed.

SOLUTION: (A) Let a Gaussian surface be a cylinder of radius r and length L. The axis of the cylinder coincides with the wire. According to Gauss’s law 2 \pi RLE = \lambda L/\epsilon_0, from which E = \frac{1}{2 \pi \epsilon_0} \frac{\lambda}{r}. The answer can also be found by elimination of choices, since (A) is the only choice with correct units.
